  • Extension, main roof & porch
  • Two weeks on site
  • Full strip & re-cover
  • Slate

The homeowner had a leak in his extension roof, and a bucket underneath it to catch the drips. He'd lived with it for several years.

When he decided to get it fixed he had three roofers out. All three looked at the problem, offered a view on what was causing it, and were asked for a price.

Not one of them got back to him.

Finding the real problem

DMD came recommended by a friend. Dan looked at the extension — then spotted a slipped tile on the main roof. Repositioning it revealed what the others had missed entirely: the battens up there had rotted too. He photographed every issue and flew a drone over the full roof for close-up detail and accurate measurements.

The work carried out

Two days later he returned with three costed options. The homeowner chose the most comprehensive, and upgraded from tiles to slate.

  • Full strip and re-cover — extension, main house roof and porch
  • New felt and battens throughout
  • New Westerland slates
  • New lead box gutter
  • New UPVC fascias, soffits and guttering
  • Scaffolding, skips and materials all arranged by DMD

The result

The job finished on the exact date promised. Twisted rafters found along the way were replaced within the agreed price. When the first rain came, there were no leaks — including from the faults the homeowner never knew he had.

“Wow, what a professional company. I had a leak in my extension roof for several years with a bucket under it… Three different roofers came here, looked at the problem, said what they thought was causing it. Asked them all to let me know a price. Not one of them got back to me.

“The whole job was arranged and done by a very professional team and their workmanship was exceptional. I don't usually leave reviews, but these boys deserve it. Several neighbours have also commented on how good a job it is. Today we had our 1st rain and no leaks anymore.

“I was recommended DMD from a friend who said that they were excellent, and had done a few jobs for him.

I contacted them, Dan turned up looked at the problem, but also seen a slipped tile on the main roof. When he went to reposition it, he found the battens had rotted on the main roof also. He also took pictures to show me the state of them. He then flew his drone over all the roof with close ups of issues and to get measurements.

Two days later, came back to me with 3 prices, 1 to fix leak, 2 to change whole roof on extension due to other issues I know I had, 3 to change 1 and 2, plus main roof house and porch. Decided to go for no. 3. Also decided with slate instead of tiles and new plastics.

They arranged everything, scaffolding, skips and materials. They informed me a date they hope to finish the job, and it was finished on that exact date, but the weather was also on our side.

They turned up at exactly 8.30am every morning, didn't even stop for a break, continued to work with a coffee in one hand and a hammer in the other. At the end of every day they would clean up and leave the place spotless. Before leaving every day, they would also knock and inform me of how things were going, and show me the rotten wood they had removed. They also found a couple of issues, twisted rafters etc, which they changed all in the agreed price.

Will miss the boys working here, as they feel like mates now, but definitely won't miss the banging.”
